M: Mealtime Manners
Always remember: “Eat to your left, drink to your right”
Fork is on your left, knife and spoon on right
Salad on left and drink on right
Wash your hands
Say the blessing
Pass towards the right
Never reach across
Place napkin in your lap
A: Always be thankful
Say thank you to servers and hostesses at restaurants
Write a thank you note when you are a guest or get a gift
It’s the right thing to do
It helps me remember the gift and feel more grateful
It’s like giving a gift back
If the gift came in the mail, it lets the giver know you received it
People who receive thank you notes want to give more gifts!
N: Never make a big deal
If someone has a stain on there shirt or food in teeth, mention it in private not in public
Use your quiet voice
Do not embarrassed anyone
If someone falls, do not laugh but help them up and encourage them
N: No, No’s about manners
Don’t say everything you think
Don’t point out people’s bad manners
Don’t say “we don’t do it this way at my house”
Don’t forget to say thank you
E: Even to your siblings
No teasing, tattling, or fighting
Don’t hurt feelings
Sticking up for them
Be respectful of feelings and property
R: Remember the Golden Rule
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!
S: Staying Safe
Never talk to a strange adult unless you are with a parent or responsible adult
Stay with your group when you go on a field trip
Do not give out your number or address over the phone
If you are alone home, do not answer the door or let someone know who calls that you are home alone
If you do not feel safe tell a parent, teacher, or counselor
